HIVE reinvents the way we block party by celebrating cultural traditions through locally produced goods.

This was a collaborative project aimed to support the urban pollinator network in Kingsessing, Philadelphia and build upon the community’s existing assets to provide the community with something of value.

A multi-disciplinary group of designers and landscape architects set a goal to find a solution that encourages the community of Kingsessing, Philadelphia to engage in their pollinator network.

Thats right... pollinators. Like, bees and butterflies!

We quickly noticed underrepresented food-centric communities that reflect the Kingsessing neighborhoods...
So we identified some locations that could function as central hubs by analyzing areas of naturally high activity within the area.

That’s when we uncovered that Kingsessing falls into the most densely celebrated region in all of Philadelphia!

We then created the HIVE, the block party catalyst that showcases your community’s strengths and highlights it’s already existing networks. HIVE also provides the opportunity to empower local businesses, chefs and gardeners to culminate these assets all into a culturally enriched block party, that might look something like this:

Now that we’ve got the framework figured out, all that’s left to do is sign up with the HIVE toolkit!
